Our new calendar versioning scheme no longer artificially distinguishes between major and minor releases. Instead, we will indicate the calendar year in which the respective software version is released. Subsequent versions of a year will be numbered consecutively, so 2022.1 will be followed by 2022.2 and so on.
Switching to calendar versioning will avoid confusion about the significance of a release. All releases in a calendar year are considered of equal importance, which means that there will no longer be “the” major release that contains numerous new features at once. Instead, improvements, bug fixes, or new features may be released across several new versions.
With our new release rhythm, we are targeting a quarterly frequency.
The change of the release rhythm and versioning scheme has no effect on the provision of the software. Download account owners can download the software versions from their download account as usual.
License files issued under an update/service agreement will have a certain validity range to simplify the process of upgrading to a new version. Such license files support all versions released within the respective validity range. Cross-version validity does not affect your license for the software.*
The technical validity range of a license file covers (i) all versions of the respective update/service agreement term for which the license file has been issued as well as (ii) all previous software versions that had been released as of January 1 of the immediately preceding calendar year.*
For example: If the license file is issued for the update/service agreement term January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2023, the license file supports the use of all versions released between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023.
Another example: If the license file is issued for the update/service agreement term July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, the license file supports the use of all versions released between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2023.
No, cross-version validity does not affect your license for the software.*
For example: If you have purchased a perpetual license and the license file issued under your update/service agreement supports the use of all versions released between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2023, then the use of all supported versions of the software will remain technically possible even after December 31, 2023. However, later versions like 2024.1 cannot be used with this license file.
No. Whether a new license file is necessary depends on several factors. In general, a new license file is required in case of renewal of your update/service agreement and will be issued upon expiry of the respective contractual year.
Please note: For the initial upgrade to version 2022.1 (the first of our releases to support the validity range), a new license file is required, which you will need to request from us.

You can check the “About” dialog in the software to see the validity range of your license file along with further license details. The validity range is a date range that does not explicitly list the software versions that are technically supported by the license file.
When you install a new version of the software, the older version will not be automatically deinstalled.
