CT Reconstruction

The CT Reconstruction add-on module has been developed to allow projection images created by a CT scanner to be imported directly into VGStudio MAX or VGStudio by converting the projection images to a volume dataset. The CT Reconstruction solution is based on the Feldkamp cone beam reconstruction algorithm and provides all necessary scan correction features. The CT Reconstruction module is able to improve the image quality using the standard Volume Graphics beam hardening correction or the optional Iterative Artefact Reduction (IAR) * add-on.

Without beam hardening correction (above): Incorrect display of gray values (2D slices) causes, amongst others, holes in the object (3D view). With beam hardening correction (below): Clear presentation without artefacts (2D slices) leads to a closed detailed object (3D view).

The CT Reconstruction module has been implemented to allow reconstruction to be performed on standard PCs - there is no special hardware required. Computing is done either on an off-the-shelf graphics card (GPU) or the CPUs (multi-processor/multi-core system). Even the largest datasets can be reconstructed on standard PCs, allowing excellent performance to be achieved.

The CT Reconstruction module is available to the user as an import option for projection images, but it can also be integrated into the CT scanner software by OEM customers to create a direct connection between the CT system and VGStudio MAX/VGStudio.
