VGStudio MAX is able to perform complete metrological analyses including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (according to DIN ISO 1101) directly on the voxel data. Conversion of volume data into surface or .STL data is not necessary for this kind of analysis. All details of the dataset that are usually lost during conversion into surface data can be taken into account for metrological analysis. This is why VGStudio MAX supports more accurate and also faster measuring (no loss of time for data conversion) of volume data than other software solutions.
The Coordinate Measurement add-on module provides a unique and very accurate method, the so-called Advanced Calibration, for precise determination of the surface of a CT scanned object. It makes use of the Partial Volume Effect that characterizes the edges of a CT dataset in order to determine the object surface with an accuracy of less than one voxel. With this method, measuring accuracies of up to 1/10th of the voxel size can be realized, depending on the quality of the dataset.
All measurements and reference objects and reports relating to these measurements can be saved in so-called templates. These can later be quickly applied to any number of datasets. In this way, VGStudio MAX allows users to create a measuring template on a CAD model which can then easily be transferred to the real dataset to provide instant measuring results and predefined reports.
In order to perform a complete set of measurements against a drawing and/or an actual/nominal comparison with CAD data, VGStudio MAX provides several methods of fitting CAD models to datasets or any chosen coordinate system. This fitting can be done using a Best Fit, fitting of reference objects, RPS or 3-2-1 registration.
