FAQ

Some frequently asked questions concerning our software products with appropriate answers are listed below. If this does not answer your question, please contact our Technical Solutions Team. We will be glad to address your specific question.

Some of the functionality described below may not be available for all of our software products or may require add-on modules without this being expressly mentioned.

May I load CAD data into VGStudio MAX?

  • Surface models may be loaded in .stl format. They may be used within VGStudio MAX e.g. for an Actual/Nominal Comparison of a CT scanned part, for the alignement of the volume data or as a segmentation template.

How many datasets may I load into VGStudio MAX at the same time?

  • The number of data sets that may me loaded is not restricted by our software but mainly by the available hardware (main memory and processors). The loading of several volume data sets may be necessary if an object is too large for the CT system and must be scanned in several parts. In this case the partial scans must be loaded into VGStudio MAX and the object assembled by combining the partial scans into one large data set.

May I create user-defined coordinate systems?

  • There is a coordinate system editor you can use to create your own coordinate systems. Normally, however, it will be sufficient to align the object within the scene coordinate system of VGStudio MAX.

Do you support a metrological alignment of objects?

  • There are several methods available for the alignment of objects: You can align a single object within a coordinate system or you can align one object with another. The add-on module 'Coordinate Measurement' is required for alignment.

How can I document images, measurements and analysis results?

  • VGStudio MAX provides a wide range of reporting functions for measuring and analysis modules. Tabular and image-based reports may be created automatically. These reports may be saved in html format or exported to RTF files for processing with a word processing programme. Alternatively, they may be printed directly from VGStudio MAX. If a pdf printer driver has been installed, you can print directly to a PDF.
  • For speedy documentation of slice images and/or the 3D view, a simple copy function (for pasting e.g. into a word processing file) is available. Slice images and 3D views can also be combined into one image and saved together.
  • You can create films leafing through the image stack or showing a flight around your object. This functionality is also well-suitef for documenting the defects and their distribution in an object shown as semi-transparent.

Is there a free viewer for projects created with VGStudio MAX?

  • To pass on you projects to your customers, you may use the myVGL viewer. Since this viewer causes a considerable development effort, e.g. to allow large data sets to be viewed on a standard office computer, we cannot provide myVGL free of charge. An annual license has to be purchased if myVGL is to be passed on with your projects.
