CT Reconstruction

The CT Reconstruction add-on module available for VGStudio allows projection images to be imported directly from a CT system. The module converts projection images into volume data based on the Feldkamp algorithm and also provides a range of scan geometry correction features. The CT Reconstruction module is able to improve the image quality using the standard Volume Graphics beam hardening correction or the optional Iterative Artefact Reduction (IAR) * add-on.

Without beam hardening correction (above): Incorrect display of gray values (2D slices) causes, amongst others, holes in the object (3D view). With beam hardening correction (below): Clear presentation without artefacts (2D slices) leads to a closed detailed object (3D view).

It has been implemented to allow CT Reconstruction to be performed on off-the-shelf PCs - there is no special hardware required. Reconstruction is done either on a standard graphics card (GPU) or the CPUs (multi-processor/multi-core system). Even the largest data sets can be reconstructed on standard PCs, providing excellent performance.

The CT Reconstruction add-on module is available to end users as an import option for projection images, but it can also be integrated into the CT system software by OEM customers. VG Project SDK provides a direct link from the CT system to VGStudio/VGStudio MAX.
