Volume Graphics, a leading developer of software for the analysis and visualization of industrial computed tomography (CT) data, has released more products of its 3.0 software generation. Customers can now use a totally compatible software family for the non-destructive analysis, inspection, measurement, and visualization of their products.

The upgrade to version 3.0 makes the affordable entry solution VGSTUDIO, the universal metrology solution VGMETROLOGY, and the free viewer for CT data myVGL compatible with both VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0 and each other. At the same time, VGSTUDIO 3.0, VGMETROLOGY 3.0, and myVGL 3.0 introduce interesting, new features.

Volume Graphics also continued work on its high-end software VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0, which was released end of May 2016; service pack 1 for VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0 offers a number of improvements and is available now.

What's New in VGSTUDIO 3.0, VGMETROLOGY 3.0, and myVGL 3.0

Just as with VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0, VGSTUDIO 3.0, VGMETROLOGY 3.0, and myVGL 3.0 have been completely redeveloped to take full advantage of the capabilities of modern hardware.

And as in VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0, VGSTUDIO 3.0, VGMETROLOGY 3.0, and myVGL 3.0 also offer a modernized user interface with two themes: the metrology-optimized ‘bright’ theme and a new ‘dark’ theme, which is ideal for working with gray value images.

The 3.0 products offer a new level of compatibility. All products now support the extremely compact .mvgl format for metrology projects created with VGMETROLOGY or VGMETROLOGY ES. At the same time, the whole 3.0 software family can read files saved in the .vgl format that is used by VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0. In addition, VGSTUDIO 3.0, VGMETROLOGY 3.0, and myVGL 3.0 can read the new single-files that combine all files, folders, and even the source data (.vgarchive files). VGSTUDIO 3.0 also has the option to create .vgarchive files.

The export and reporting features are now on par with the high-end software VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0 as well:

  • Top-level reporting to generate reports on all the analyses linked to an object
  • A new VG Report Format (.vgrf) to save analysis results in a standardized folder and file structure
  • Completely customizable test reports that can be created together with Microsoft Excel (function requires Microsoft Excel)

VGSTUDIO 3.0 has access to the tremendously improved CT-reconstruction functions of VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0 (not part of the basic version of VGSTUDIO 3.0 and must be purchased separately). Together with the CT Reconstruction Module, VGSTUDIO 3.0 covers the complete workflow, from the precise reconstruction of three-dimensional volume data sets using the images taken by a CT scanner to the visualization in 3D and 2D as well as impressive animation.
